Commonwealth Games Final Day Update : The double's pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa gave Indian fans another reason to celebrate by winning Gold in the Double's Final of Badminton. The second seeded pair of Jwala Gutta - Ashwini Ponappa beat top seed Sari Shanti Mulia and Yao Lei in straight sets by 21-16, 21-19. In front of a packed crowd, the Indian duo displayed great enthusiasm attacking all the way with powerful smashes and net play.

"It's unbelievable. I think it was long pending for me. I am quite emotional. The feeling is yet to sink in. Ashwini played exceptionally well and we hope to continue the good work," said Jwala Gutta in the press conference immediately after winning the Gold. "I want to dedicate the medal to my family who stood by me, my coaches, especially SM Arif, Atik Jauhari and all the team members, Gopi. I owe this medal to all who helped me" she said.
"It was not a comfortable match. Both the parties had to fight for the points in rallies. We were just focusing on the point and not bothering about winning or losing," she added.
In Table Tennis, the Indian women's pair of Poulomi Ghatak and Mouma Das clinched a Bronze medal by defeating Aussie pair of Tan Z Vivian and Campbell-Innes Peri.
Indian hopes of winning a Hockey Gold were dashed when world champion Australia thrashed the Indian men's Team by 8-0. However it was a good show put up by the Indian team who has never won a medal in Commonwealth Games. Even after getting drubbed by Aussies in the finals, there was no lack of support from the sell out Delhi crowd who gathered at Dhyan Chand National Stadium prompting the young centre back Dhananjay Mahadik to carry a poster acknowledging the support during their lap of honour after the match.
The crowd also cheered and the rare gesture was received very well by the spectators who have supported the Hockey team all through out the Games and gave standing ovation despite the defeat at the hands of Aussies in final.
