iSporter Anmol Singh Diddan analyses the effects of the loss to Chelsea at Old Trafford and is not happy to see a jaded Alex Ferguson. Is it a sign of things to come at Old Trafford? Read on...

The title race took yet another dramatic turn on Saturday. I stress on the word ‘dramatic’ because that is the way it was.
The game might well turn out to be the title decider. Even Sir Alex admits that Chelsea have a decisive edge now. “I’m certain we’ll respond. But we could win our next five games and not win the league. If Chelsea win their five, they’re champions,” said Sir Alex after the game.
The loss was the seventh United have had to bear in the league this season; their second against Chelsea. History says that no team has won a title with seven or more losses. So, history is definitely against the red devils. But, in hindsight this is the team that loves rewriting history.
But, what is disturbing is the fact that it seems the wind has been knocked out of the Manchester United sails. After such a disturbing loss, the least we could have expected was for Sir Alex to come out and believe that United can still win it. It is unusual of Sir Alex to look jaded, but he looked very jaded after the game.
Being a United fan, I would have loved a feisty, confident Sir Alex coming out all guns blazing and saying that we will still win the league. That would have infused some confidence back into the players and fans especially after witnessing the being outplayed for a major part of the game.
The game, well, it again turned out to be one of those big games where the refereeing decisions overshadowed the football. The linesman must have been blind to not spot the Drogba offside and Macheda’s handled ball, though less obvious, was a contentious call as well.
If we rewind to Stamford Bridge last year, Chelsea were wrongly awarded a free kick for a Darren Fletcher foul on Ashley Cole. They scored off it and the goal turned out to be the decider in a game which was largely dominated by United. So, both the fixtures have been overshadowed by the referees.
All said and done, there are times when decisions go for you and times when they go against you. All that United can do now is get up and win their next five and hope that Chelsea drop points at tough visits like Anfield and White Hart Lane.
Sir Alex needs to pick up his boys and they need to cease the opportunities. There has never been a team that has won four titles on the trot. Manchester United has the chance to add another ‘first’ to their kitty. But, to achieve that, the players, manager and the fans at Old Trafford need to make the right noises.
Let us not forget Arsenal here. They are just one point behind United now and if United do drop further points, then it might well be that Arsenal jump up to second and United end the season at a disastrous third place. The football fan is loving the nail biting finish to the season but the fanatics are having a tough time dealing with their team’s fluctuating fortunes. So whose side are you on, fan or fanatic?
