iSporter and Liverpool fan Chirag Mansukhani debuts on iSport dissecting the problems on the Merseyside and is not very please with the manager Rafa Benitez, read on...

Liverpool’s appalling season just hit all time lows last week with the side’s spearheads - Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Yossi Benayoun - all sidelined due to injury. To make matters worse, Liverpool only managed a draw over the weekend at Stoke, putting more pressure on the already shaky shoulders of one Mr. Rafa Benitez.

Furthermore, Rafa has hinted that if Liverpool does not qualify for the Champions League they may have to sell Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, the two players that the club thrives on. And there lies the frustrating part for players and fans alike. The Anfield faithful need a better answer than Benitez merely apologizing and saying that they need to keep working hard. After all, let’s not forget that last season this was a team contending for the Premier League title.  There have been various reports from England linking Gerrard to Real Madrid as the Liverpool stalwart is reportedly frustrated at his side's inability to win matches when Torres and him are out due to injury. He realizes that the time for him to win titles is running out, and he wants results.

Make no mistake about it; I am a staunch Liverpool supporter and always have been, but the bottom line is that this is a result-oriented industry and lets face it, Rafa's reign at the helm of Anfield seems to be coming to an end. The message is clear - Rafa must go! The writing has been on the wall for weeks now and I think the former Valencia manager has been given more than just a fair chance to turn things around.

It is understood that the fans' favourites to replace Mr. Benetiz are Inter Milan Boss Jose Mourinho and Ex- Chelsea Interim Boss Guss Hiddink. And think about it, who better than “The Guss” himself to revive a club with such a great history.

Personally, I would love to see “The Guss” at Liverpool, but we have to wait it out and see what happens. Certainly, the manager is not bigger than the club, and if it really does come down to selling the likes of Torres and Gerrard, I’m afraid Rafa must be sent packing first.

The fact is that Liverpool’s season is in absolute shambles with no respite in sight. The Reds faltered from the start and they never really recovered from that. Add to that a manager that has made a series of poor signings, bringing on fringe players for the most part without buying any big money players, and go figure, when he does by big money players he likes them warming the bench?! He never really gave Robbie Keane a fair run alongside Torres.

Even Alberto Aquilani has been on the bench for most of the season up to now. My only question to Rafa is, if you knew he was injured and would take time to recover why spend so much on a player? I mean the money could have been used to buy a player that is ready to replace the departing Alonso. Instead we found Aquilani on the bench until Christmas. If the Manager wanted him so bad we could have bought him in the current transfer window with him having fully recovered from his injury woes.

Not to mention Glen Johnson, who has been in and out of the side due to injury, was an over priced buy to say the least because while he's great on the attacking part of the pitch he’s not half as good with the defending which, pardon my layman's knowledge, I think is the actual job of the full back, isn’t it?

Liverpool of course still have a good chance of turning things around with quite a bit of football left in the season, and the gap between them and a Champions League spot is only four points. One would think that Liverpool are definitely still in the hunt for a Champions League spot, but that the club really needs an overhauling, beginning with a new manager at the helm; should have been on top of the Christmas wish list for the owners at the Merseyside club.

Well I honestly hope so...but can't really say anything at the moment, we've got 2 relatively easy games against Wolverhampton and Bolton, followed by the Merseyside derby...so the next 2-3 weeks shall tell the tale...fingers crossed though...

Even if Liverpool don't do anything fancy like firing the manager or getting more players, I am sure they will have a better second half and will climb near or get their fourth place.
