Arsenal gave Blackpool a reality check with a 6-0 drubbing at the Emirates. The seasiders have been living in a world of dream since the play-off final in the early part of the year and it seemed that the dream will live a lot longer after their 4-0 win over Wigan last week.
But the Premier League is a cruel place and Ian Holloway's men learnt a harsh foootball lesson breaking the dream spell as they were thrashed 6-0 by the hughely talented Arsenal side at the Emirates.
Arsenal started off very brightly and were dominating the game from the word go.
Theo Walcott scored the first of his 3 goals in the 12th minute in a dazzling display of skills by Arsene Wenger's kids. Walcott's first hatrick in club football saw the former Southampton man at his best display in a long time where he ran the Blackpool defense ragged with his speed and skill.
Andrey Arshavin scored from the penalty spot in the 32nd, after the referee showed a straight red to Ian Evatt minute for a challenge that seemed to have been committed right outside the penalty box. Chamakh and Abu Diaby scored one apiece to complete the tally and give the Gunners the first victory of the season.
2 goals and a man down after 32 minutes, Blackpool never looked like getting back into the game. A game that was always going to be difficult with 11 men, considering the vast difference between the quality and pedigree of the two teams, became an insurmountable task and it was always going to be a matter of how many more will Arsenal score.
The good news for Blackpool is that they will not be playing the likes of Arsenal every weekend and would hope that they won't get unlucky in losing a man so early again. Based on their performance in the first match against Wigan and considering the lack of quality among the bottom teams in the Premier League, Blackpool fans shouldn't lose hope though.
