Liverpool came through against Bolton winning the match 2-0 with a goal from Dirk Kuyt and an own goal from Kevin Davies, taking Rafa Benitez’s side a little bit closer to that coveted UEFA Champions league spot. iSports Chirag Mansukhani expresses why Liverpool has been lucky.

However, the win was anything but magical in what can only be described as a scrappy game of football; Liverpool was lucky that Bolton failed to take their chances, and there were a quite a few of those. On more than one occasion Tamir Cohen and Lee Chung-Yong left the Liverpool defense exposed, in fact at one instance the duo even had the keeper beat and it was only a save off the goal line by defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos that kept the hopes of another Liverpool clean sheet alive. That along with the man-marking job that Muamba was doing on Steven Gerrard, showed the lack of class in the Liverpool side as they struggled to make any major inroads in the Bolton defense.

It has to be said though that the line-up was more attacking in nature which was a welcome change with the likes of Riera and Aquilani in the starting line-up. The Liverpool performance could definitely have been a little better and it was clear that they were missing the quality of star striker Fernando Torres.

At the end of the day the end result is what counts, especially for a side like Liverpool who were desperately seeking a victory and a much needed 3 points to inch closer to the fourth spot. It was another clean sheet for Reina and the Liverpool defense, with the Anfield club unbeaten in six games now.

A turn around may be upon us, although much will be decided in the upcoming weeks with the Europa Cup starting and the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and next week’s match against Everton all in store for the Scousers’ as a difficult and tricky month of February lies ahead.
