iSporter Asif Khan is struggling to get over the debacle of last two weeks where his favorite team lost 3 out of 4 matches. He vents out his anger at the players, the manager and everyone else but like a true fan believes his team can still win the title.

Football has been very helpful in improving my vocabulary over the last two weeks, I often consider myself a man of few words so when Arsenal got thrashed at Emirates all I had to say with a sullen face was "What a disgrace".
Watching them play at Stamford bridge yesterday I was skeptical that they might get beaten again but some quality and fluent footbal raised my hopes high, not too high I will say. Right then Drogba struck and then he struck again and with a sullen face 4 words came out of my mouth, "What a f**king disgrace!"
As you would have noticed I made progress just as my favorite team did, they gave way one goal less and I learnt to use one more word in their praise.
Last two weeks have been bad, A loss to Stoke City ensured we were out of FA Cup. A draw against the Villans and losses at Emirates and Stamford Bridge have almost ensured, according to the so called pundits, that we are out of the title race unless a miracle happens.
Two things got exposed very badly in the last 3 losses, lack of a true Striker and weakness of the defence. At least that's what most people are talking about, I believe the problem two is totally dependent on problem one and would have been a non-issue if only the problem one had been taken care off.
We sold Adebayor and then we didn't buy anyone to replace him, Eduardo isn't the same anymore. Arshavin can't dismantle defenses full of 6 giants all by himself and to be fair to him has some off days which everyone is allowed to.
Theo Walcott shows some glimpses of brilliance and then gets injured, takes a few months to recover and then another few to recover his form and then shows some glimpses of his brilliance and gets injured again! Nicklas Bendtner, lets just not talk about him.
Carlos Vela was meant to be the next big thing when he had a very successful season with Osasuna but that seems eon's ago since then he has had many chances to prove himself, but he is still the kid who can be great some day.
The question is who will score the goals? It's obvious everyone in the team realises the problem and comes forward to help the front line players leaving the back post exposed to counter attacks and that is exactly where we lost last three games!
You ask me, is Vermaelen a bad defender? NO, is Gallas not good enough? NO, Clichy has a bad day on and off but he is a fantastic defender and so is Sagna. Why do they go all the way in the next half and leave the Goal Post open? to help Arshavin and Co.
BTW did you notice the words "Goal Post open?" yeah they leave it open because Almunia is useless as a dead wood! While Peter Chech made brilliant saves to keep Arshavin & Co. at bay, Almunia left the post open everytime Drogba came running towards him!
He was probably too scared of the force with which the ball will hit him considering Drogba's strength and power or he was day dreaming about his British passport and wondering whether Capello will consider him for the England World Cup squad as they generally produce useless Goal Keepers in this country!
A simple message to Almunia, you are so useless Capello will rather pick up David 'Calamity' James, Paul 'Blunder' Robinson, Joe Hart or even Scot Carson over you, so just forget about it!
Going by Arsene Wenger's previous record he will not "break the bank" as the British media call it, he could have bought Chamakh last summer or even in January window, but he will wait till the coming summer and get him for free. It doesn't matter that the shrewdness has nearly cost him the title.
Where does it leaves us this season? well to start with I don't believe our season is over, not yet! It might just be over if we lose to Liverpool in the mid-week.
Considering how Chelsea and United themselves have been dropping points against smaller teams and they still need to play each other, while we will be done with all the big fixtures after Liverpool.
We still stand a damn good chance and not just a mathematical chance. All we need to do is to patch together a winning run just like we did after losing to Chelsea last time and come April we will be in hunt again.

... Awesome one Asif. Being a fellow gunner, I completely share your sentiments. Wenger should simply go to madrid. We need result and trophies now which means we need mourinho now. But I disagree with you on one count. Our title challenge is OVER ! And against liverpool we are hoping against hope my friend. A draw is the best result one can expect. The team is way too demoralised to put together a run now. We are BOYS not MEN ! Rather I would say KIDS not even BOYS ! Hurts like hell as I am writing this. |

... Just as i read your article i see Niklas Bendtner is in the starting line up... i think Arsenal have always enjoyed a good run against my favourite team liverpool... esspecially Arshawin.. for some reason he goes mad.. i hope he has two off days in a row.... and i agree with Asif here... i dont think the title race is off course as yet considering the games coming ahead.... Nice one Asif Cheers!! |

... Hi Asif, as a fellow gunner i think we all knew that this crazy run of 4 games would define the season. United and Chelsea destroyed us on the counter and while Vermaelen + Gallas have turned out to be a very good partnership (they score too); unfortunately not the rock solid back like the Campbells, Keone etc. Wenger has been a genius during his stint in England but i see this stubborn streak in him which has and will cost us the silverware. The evidence is there that big signings bolster the team, Arshavin last january and Vermaelen this summer. You cannot have Alex song playing in defense one and in the midfield the next, its similar to the greg chappel policy of players floating around. Arshavin is a class act when on the left from where he cuts in and unleashes those unstoppable bullets or making those darting runs down the line. He came into the limelight cause in Euro'08 he had Pavlyuchenko upfront to link with. When wenger makes statements like getting Bendtner back from injury is like a new signing its just highlights his stubborn streak. With RVP out for the season, Eduardo back from career ending injury, it made sense to get a strong striker upfront. Chamakh saga has been on for 6 months, a very unhappy Klass Huntelaar wants a move out of AC and his dutch style would fit in at Arsenal so well. All the same a lot of grit was shown against the scousers and with the other results going in our favour, who knows. Bring on the Porto !! |
