The promising Aditya Patel made the brave move of migrating and racing on the European circuits. Let’s hear him write on his first ever race in the prestigious and competitive VW Polo Cup.

It's been an eventful 2 weeks for me. It all started a month ago when I was given a drive in the Volkswagen Polo cup in Germany. From there on it's been a rush like never before to get things sorted for the first race which was held in Hockenheim on the 17th of May! Being my first time ever in a saloon car, I found it challenging to learn the track and car in a mere 30 minutes! Practice went well with me managing to put it 15th out of 27! I was quite surprised myself! Well, this tempted me to try harder in qualifying but it all went the wrong way with me pushing too hard, hence making too many mistakes and qualifying 23rd in what started out as a very promising qualifying session! None the less, it was my first weekend and all I needed to do was to learn the tricks of saloon car racing.

It's race day now and our only race is the first of the day. The start was really good and I managed to gain two places off the line but turn one saw a massive pile up in front which involved Ashwin Sundar who qualified in a credible 8th place! The incident which saw Ashwin being a poor spectator to things that happened around him meant it was the end of the race for him. After a brief safety car period, the race was on again and I was quick off the restart to gain two places into turn3. It all seemed to be going well with me running 17th till 'BANG!' out of nowhere another driver out braked himself and drove into me into turn 3! He did apologise at the end of the race but that didn't change the result of things.

Well, now it's time for race 2 at the Euro speedway in Lausitz! I’m looking forward to better results here and a top 10 finish for this weekend is what I aim for.

I would have never come this far if it weren't for my sponsors JKTyre, Amaron, Speed, MAS Holdings, AJ Worldwide and Virtu Technologies. I would like to thank them for all their support and hope to be associated with them in the years to come!
