F1 Update from the iSport F1 Pitstop: Bernie Ecclestone sees humour and money in his mugging writes iSporter Kunal Shah.

berniehublot

Last week, I read about Bernie Ecclestone and his girlfriend being mugged late night in London.

When I read about the incident, I had two immediate thoughts rushing my head; first, is he alright and of course how rich would the thief (thieves) have gotten. Second, this happened only in India, didn't it? (I am glad it was London and not during the Indian GP!!)

However, just when I thought the story was over, Bernie has come up with a classic one. He's got Hublot to launch their first official F1 watch, the Hublot F1 King Power. The creative thought behind this launch is his 'mugging incident'. The ad shows Bernie in a post-assault face with a badly bruised eye. The ad also says 'See what people will do for a Hublot'.

I think this is a bold attempt from Bernie and Hublot and over all speaks of his eye for humour and of course commercial sense. I think Bernie Ecclestone is one of the best sports marketing gurus the world has seen and this ad is a testimony to that.

Here's a screenshot of the ad that will appear in a few dailies internationally.
