iSport F1 Pitstop: iSporter Chirag Mansukhani previews F1 2010 for debutant team – Virgin Racing

Richard Branson and his Virgin racing team are all set to make their Grand Prix debut at Bahrain this weekend. The team looks all set and is eager to make an impact in their very first season in Formula one. How much of an impact will they make is yet to be seen. This season looks all set to be one of the toughest yet.
With the return of Michael Schumacher racing for the Mercedes team, Ross Brawn will be looking to re-create magic with his most successful driver. To add to that, Felipe Massa will also be making his return after a near fatal car crash last year. Hamilton and McLaren will be keen to take forward the form they showed late last season. Also let’s not forget the current World Champion Jenson Button who will look to defend his title this year.
Imagine amongst all this you’re new to the sport. Virgin Racing certainly has their work cut out in more ways than one. What certainly needs to be done is that their goals would have to be defined. It would be great if they go to Bahrain and do what Brawn GP managed last year; however, we all know that it would be a very difficult ask.
Virgin Racing have tried a new method in designing their race cars. They’ve employed CFD to design their racing car – usually teams employ a combination of CFD and wind-tunnel testing. Innovative indeed, but will it work?
Virgin Racing has two young drivers in Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi. Lucas di Grassi is all set to make his Formula One debut. It’s a new team making its debut with two young drivers. A lot of promise for sure, whether they will be able to keep the pace with the front runners in the pack remains to be seen.
All in all it is definitely going to be an exciting start to the season with loads to watch out for. Be it the return of Schumacher and Massa or watching this new team debut; this weekend sure promises to be an exciting one.
Like I said it would be wonderful even if Virgin Racing takes just a point; though one certainly shouldn’t write them off just yet. After all, if Brawn could do it last year why not Virgin this year. Furthermore, Mr. Branson has been known for his antics in the past so don’t be surprised if he pops into one of those Formula One cars and drives for his precious team. See you on the tracks!
