iSport F1 Pitstop: While Ferrari and Felipe Massa finished a credible 4th in the Monaco GP, iSporter Chirag Mansukhani believes that the Brazilian driver needs to get his act together sooner rather than later.

Other than the first couple of races at the start of the season, this season so far has been rather disappointing for Felipe Massa. Everyone was awaiting his comeback to see whether or not he had it in him to still compete at the highest level. While he has certainly shown he can still rough it out with the boys at the top he hasn’t been in contention for the chequered flag in most of the races so far.
This is certainly disappointing and with new team mate Fernando Alonso doing fairly better than Massa it is time for Felipe to pull up his socks and show everyone that he has the mettle. Yes Felipe is a team player and everyone at Ferrari certainly loves him but if he doesn’t do something sooner rather than later one gets the feeling that his Ferrari days could well be numbered.
The Monaco Grand Prix this weekend proved to be no different. It was yet another frustrating outing for Felipe. He managed to qualify only fourth fastest on the grid and on a street circuit like Monaco with so many twists and turns overtaking was always going to be difficult. It has to be said though that Massa did run through the race beautifully as only 12 drivers ended up finishing the race. Having said that it was rather disappointing to see Massa end up where he had started on the grid. It would have been nice for him to get a podium finish over here which would maybe have given him a head start and a feel good factor going into the rest of the season.
Massa and Ferrari certainly have a lot of work to do. Post this race they are no longer leading the Constructor’s Championship and as far as winning the world title goes while a couple of good performances would certainly put Felipe back in the running his form has certainly looked far off championship wining form.
One has to feel for Felipe Massa and wonder whether he is still holding back something due to his crash last season. His critics will always be there but I do believe in Massa and while I am disappointed with his performance so far one has to remember that there is still much of the season left and anything can happen. For Felipe’s sake I do hope that he starts performing soon so as to silence his critics and make a late charge for the Championship.
With many drivers such as Webber and Kubica showing fine form any Massa fan would be worried that he may well be replaced at the end of the season. After all, Alonso has been consistently doing better than him this season and one gets the feeling that if any changes are to be made at Ferrari then Massa may well just be the one to go.
However like I said before there is still a lot of the season remaining and the positive side of it is that we are just six races in to the season and now would be the perfect time for Felipe to move up a gear and into full throttle.
What lies in future for Felipe remains to be seen. As far as the Monaco Grand Prix goes in my opinion it was definitely a rather disappointing one for Massa and one hopes that he will be able to do better in the next race. In his defense it has to be said that the Ferrari is not best suited for the track at Monaco and each team will have certain tracks that it does seem to favour. Having said that one always expects a good performance from the Ferrari team and Massa and it has to be said that it is about time that Felipe starts to deliver.

... I think he should be on his way out. While I do feel for Felipe, I think Ferrari need someone more aggressive and Felipe while is talented hasn't shown aggression like his past years. While he does have the remainder of the season to prove his worth, Ferrari's decision will honestly be made in the next few GPs and so this is a crucial period for Felipe Massa. Go Felipe!! |
