iSport F1 Pitstop: Felipe Massa will bounce back at the Turkish GP writes iSporter Chirag Mansukhani

This weekend see’s Formula One going to one of what surely has to be Felipe Massa’s favourite tracks. He will definitely be looking to perform well this weekend as it was at the Turkish Grand Prix in 2006 that Felipe picked up his maiden Formula One victory. After that he seemed to take a real liking to the track in Istanbul. Felipe ruled the track from 2006-2008, winning the race three consecutive years in a row.
Much has been said about Felipe’s form this year and he has received a lot of criticism as he has not been able to make his mark on the circuit after his return. Alonso, his teammate at Ferrari seems to be performing much better than him in the car and so Felipe’s future at Ferrari seems rather uncertain as of now.
There are certainly plenty of rumours going around the tracks already but if Felipe is to keep his Ferrari position in place he will have to up his ante starting Istanbul. There would be no better time to do it than at what is arguably his favourite circuit at the Turkish Grand Prix. He has fond memories of the track at Istanbul and will be looking to resurrect his career from this race.
Felipe’s contract with Ferrari ends this year (see Felipe to Red Bull, Webber to retire) and there has been speculation about whether his contract will be renewed or not. One thing for certain is that if Felipe wants to keep his Ferrari seat in place he is going to have to show signs of the season when Hamilton stole the championship from Massa back in the 2008.
Time is certainly running out but Felipe has the experience to show what he is capable of and there is probably no better car to do it in than the Ferrari. Yes, the Ferrari team has underperformed this year but that can all change quickly and a couple of tracks which favour the Ferrari car can see the entire race for the championship turn on its head. With every passing race the line separating Felipe from a Ferrari ouster will only get thinner.

One certainly does feel for the man, as he has never quite been the same after his horrendous crash last season, and as a staunch Felipe supporter I still certainly hope that the best is yet to come and that this track and the fond memories the track brings with it will renew Felipe’s hopes and confidence and will see him to yet another chequered flag at Istanbul.
Here’s wishing Felipe the best of luck for this weekend’s race. Go Massa!!!
