When your team is struggling to score the maiden points in the F1 championships, it is crucial to make a good start. Both Giancarlo Fisichella & Adrian Sutil had a mixed race weekend at Catalunya. Fisichella had better practice sessions between the two Force India drivers. However, once again the Force India drivers made the last row on the grid in qualifying with Sutil & Fisichella on 19th & 20th positions respectively. On Sunday, the stars didn't change either.

Sutil had a good start but then as he accelerated away from turn three, a Toyota of Jarno Trulli had spun on the inside of the corner and blocked Sutil who couldn't do anything. The damage was very heavy enforcing immediate retirement in the devastating starting lap which also saw Trulli, Sebastien Buemi & Sebastien Bourdais accompanying Sutil. This accident made the track pretty messy with lot of debris all over it. Fisichella on the other hand had a clean race. The Italian was lucky enough to survive the 3rd corner mishap on the opening lap. There was a change in strategy by changing the tyres when safety car had come out. He finished the race one lap down the leader at 14th place. But no one followed him. Fisichella had a heavy car but raced with determination and his efforts proved fruitful in the last 10 laps of the race wherein he set quicker timings which clearly signaled that Force India has the power to be quicker on the track. However, a refueling problem resulted in an extra pit stop which cost him his place and he finished behind Nakajima of Williams.

Force India definitely has many positives to take from this race even after an average performance.  Quicker timings from Fisichella at the end of the race surely suggest that this team has more potential to showcase. The team principal Dr. Vijay Mallya remains optimistic about his team’s performance and is confident that Monaco should be a much better experience.
