With almost 1/3rd of the F1 2009 season over - our writer Sahil Gore digs in to analyse the difference between two drivers who get the same equipement - i.e. team mates.
This one's really really close. It's actually unfair to compare Sebastian Vettel with Mark Webber. Vettel is yet to complete two years in the sport, while Webber is a veteran of 7 full seasons. Vettel is a home grown talent, who had corporate support from early in his career, while Webber has spent most of his years in the minnow teams of Formula 1.
Sebastian Vettel is one of the most sensational drivers to have arrived in Formula 1 in the past decade. But then, so was Mark Webber, when he made his debut. Vettel has massively impressed in his short career, and he will no doubt go on to become very successful and popular. But that does not make Webber a No.2 driver. He proved in Spain that he can out-drive his team-mate. He's been known as a qualifying specialist and has always out-qualified his team-mate over several seasons. But now, Vettel has added an interested angle to Webber's career. Mark Webber has never really had a team-mate who pushed him to explore his own limits. He not only has that now, but has also been given a car that will make him push it to its limits.
2009 will be remembered in Formula 1 for several reasons. Amongst them; the coming of age of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
