Indian Golf: Top names for DLF Masters

GURGAON, SEPTEMBER 15: The AIRCEL Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the DLF Group have announced the DLF Masters 2010. The tournament boasts its highest ever prize purse of Rs. 95 lakh and will be played at the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon, from September 16th – 19th, 2010.

The DLF Group has raised the prize money to an all-time high of Rs. 95 lakh for the fourth edition of the tournament in pursuance of its staunch commitment towards Indian professional golf.

The DLF Masters 2010 will feature some of the biggest names in Indian professional golf including the likes of Jyoti Randhawa(2007 & 2008 champion), Gaganjeet Bhullar (defending champion), C Muniyappa (reigning Indian Open champion), Anirban Lahiri
(2009 Rolex Rankings champion), SSP Chowrasia, Mukesh Kumar (current Rolex Rankings leader), Gaurav Ghei, Himmat Singh Rai, Ashok Kumar, Rahil Gangjee, Shamim Khan, Amandeep Johl, Digvijay Singh and Harmeet Kahlon, to name a few. Jyoti Randhawa returns to his home course to play in his first AIRCEL PGTI event of the 2010 season.

Gaganjeet Bhullar took the last edition of the tournament by storm as he ended with a score of 15 under 273 to record a handsome five-stroke victory. "I'm hitting the ball well and I expect the course to play tough this week given all the rain around," said Bhullar.

Mr. Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI, said, “The Aircel-PGTI 2010 schedule has delivered exciting golf till date. As we tee up for the 9.5 million rupee prize purse DLF Masters, the stakes are far higher, as the top four PGTI Order of Merit players as on Oct 15, 2010 will get automatic spots in the USD 6 million Barclays Singapore Open to be played in November 2010. We extend our sincere thanks to the DLF Group for helping stage a stronger edition of DLF Masters year-on-year, and we look forward to a week of exciting & high quality golf.”

The tournament’s unique format is another added attraction. Professionals team up with amateurs to compete for the team championship on the last two days. Each team comprises of two professionals and one amateur and the team score is calculated by taking into account the two best scores out of three on a hole-by-hole basis. This format gives the amateurs a taste of the fiercely competitive nature of professional golf.

The DLF Masters 2010 will be played at the esteemed DLF Golf & Country Club, which boasts of India’s premier world class designer golf course. This course, designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, enjoys the distinction of having been adjudged the best course in the Indian sub-continent. It features world class fairways and fast and true greens.
