With the IPL auction that kicks off today, iSporter Nupur Gadkari shares her views on how sport and politics cannot be mixed and should be treated separately! By the end of the day Cricket is entertainment and an exciting season awaits us!

The IPL auction kicks off today! 66 players of international caliber will undergo the 'going once! twice..thrice..SOLD!' process today! As an exciting season awaits every Cricket fan I can't help but ponder on how we tend to mix our decisions and thoughts. An ideal example would be the recent decision of the Sena.

Shiv Sena made it to the news again as they claimed that they will not allow Aussies to play the IPL so easily with the continuous racial attacks in their country on Indians. It amazes me when the same politicians say that they should not mix cricket with politics, how ironic! Cricket is today synonymous with entertainment and the new T20 format is an ideal example. With respect to politics it's always been entertainment don't you think?

I  wonder why should cricket and it's fans be penalized for not watching the crème de la crème of international cricketers. Are they at fault? Certainly not !! There needs to be a distinction between with thoughts and actions for the same. I don't think it's fair for certain irrational beliefs to take over the soul of an excellent sport. With these mixed thoughts, Cricket will only lose it's meaning and respect!

The auction kicks off today and with more and more contenders proving their worth are coming into contention for bidding are certainly not going to make an impression as much as the Aussies to. If the boorish attitude of Shiv Sena really comes true, the cricketing ties between the two countries are certainly going to strain. Then who is to be blamed? Cricketers, Politicians, Fans, anti-social elements? Any thoughts?

The pre-auction decisions have been quite thought provoking! With Andrew Flintoff not making it to IPL's third season due to his knee injury, Sanagakara is now the skipper for Kings XI Punjab and replaces Yuvraj Singh. With more than $700,000 to gamble with lets see what's in store for IPL's third season! So auction away! And politicians... emmmm stay away!

i wonder whats wrong with Shiv Sena.... why do they want to be a part of everything.. seriously i almost feel that they keep craving for publicity all the time....... and how do they think their decision will make things better??? infact the worst part bout them is. they target the emotion of people... obviously the families who have suffered because of racial acts in Australia would agree with them....but then why can't we think with our BRAINS sumtimes and not with not so owned POWER.....heart would be a wrong word to use smilies/tongue.gif they hate Valentine's Day too.. so i mite get into trouble for associating them with heart and love....like we have separate people for handling separate things..... i think it'll be better if the people who are involved with IPL do their own job.. then SHIV SENA trying to be a part of everything.... NYWAYS... they would never get the whole WORLD in their hands.....

Hey there! Thank you for your comment!

So true! They usually have something to say about everything! :-) It's unfortunate how the IPL might suffer if these things overshadow the actual objective of the game.
