iSport Cricket Paddock: Current IPL Champions Deccan Chargers haven’t got their playing 11 right writes iSporter and DC fan Issac John.

It was another forgettable weekend for DC that saw them capitulate rather tamely yet again against one very strong team and one mediocre team. What was worse about the defeats was that both matches were once again lost in the last 5 overs of the opposition’s batting. What should have been an area of improvement has transformed itself into an inextricably poor display of bowling form that might be here to rankle the team in the future games as well.

DC conceded 65 and 64 runs against KKR and MI respectively in their last five overs. To top it off, Gilchrist failed to provide the start DC have got so used to and the team also didn’t have anyone pull off anything special as far as the batting goes. Consequently, the two matches saw the team being completely outclassed.

DC bowling has never been strong and in the matches DC would win in the past, the batting order would often make up for the additional 10-15 runs that the bowlers gave away. However, in the last four matches that DC has lost, not only has the bowling conceded an additional 20-25 runs in every game but the batting also hasn’t clicked. VVS Laxman doesn’t fit in the side and is best left on the sidelines. His run-out in the game against MI was not just a sorry sight– it could even be nominated for the best performance in a comic role in next year’s BAFTA awards or their Indian equivalent. At the same time, Mohnish Mishra too is yet to prove his mettle.

The non-performance of domestic players both in batting and bowling is biting DC hard and as suspected, they’re still struggling to get the balance right. One wonders why Chaminda Vaas is still not making the cut. Vaas was DC’s best bowler for the first 5 games and inexplicably he didn’t find a place in the next 3 games that DC played. The fact that DC’s lost all the 3 games that they’ve played without Vaas should strike them soon else they’ll continue to lose whatever little hope they have to make the semi-finals. In any case, if they lose the next one against Rajasthan Royals on Monday, they are guaranteed to languish in the lower half of the table for this season.
