abdulla_kkrCrucial 61 runs off 47 deliveries from Manoj Tiwary and a brilliant bowling spell of 3/25 from Iqbal Abdulla helped Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Dare Devils by 17 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi.

Sehwag won the toss, elected to field and got off to a decent start removing openers Kallis, Goswami with just 42 runs on the board. Knight Riders got lucky in the first over when Kallis was dropped at mid wicket by David Warner off Irfan Pathan. Goswami then got into the act in the next over, hitting two boundaries off Morne Morkel, while a lucky Kallis followed suit in Morkel's next over hitting boundaries off consecutive deliveries.

Kallis who survived a close run out appeal off the first ball of the fifth over, was then cleaned up by Irfan Pathan via a superb inswinger two deliveries later. Agarkar then struck off the first ball of his spell removing the confident looking Goswami caught behind for 22. Some tight bowling from Agarkar and Umesh Yadav made sure that the visitors could manage only 64 from 10 overs. With the run rate dipping, Tiwary got into act hitting Agarkar for a six and four off the first two deliveries of 11th over, yielding 15 runs from the over.

James hopes then got the crucial wicket of Gautam Gambhir caught at deep midwicket to reduce Knight Riders to 82 for 3 from 12 overs. Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan then added 23 runs from 18 balls before the latter holed out to his younger brother in deep off Umesh Yadav. Eoin Morgan departed the very next ball mistiming a pull shot off a delivery that hurried on to him. Tiwary and Ten Doeschate then added 35 from four overs as Tiwary brought up hi half-century from 37 deliveries. Ten Doeschate then departed caught at point following a Six and a four off Morkel. A decent last over from Agarkar, giving away only eight runs including the wicket of Tiwary (run out) made sure that Knight Riders were restricted to 148.

In reply, Daredevils got off to a bad start losing Warner in just the second over, bowled by Balaji. Sehwag and Hopes, who was promoted up the order, added 29 runs from 4.3 overs before the former top-edged one to fine leg going for a pull off Unadkat for 34. James Hopes and Irfan Pathan then added cautious 18 runs from 4 overs before Pathan holed out to mid wicket off Abdulla for 9.

Tight bowling from Yusuf Pathan and Abdulla enforced more pressure on the batting side and the bowling side was finally rewarded with the wicket of Travis Brit, caught at deep midwicket off Yusuf Pathan. Abdulla then struck twice in the 15th over removing Hopes and Naman Ojha which meant that Knight Riders gained an upper hand at this point of time. With 63 required from 30 balls, Venugopal Rao and Yogesh Nagar put up a great fight adding 38 runs from 21 deliveries bringing down the equation to 26 from 12.

Two run outs in two balls changed the match completely as at first Venugopal Rao was run out by the bowler Brett Lee, while Agarkar was run out by a combination of Balaji (at extra cover) and Lee. With just two runs conceded off the penultimate over by Lee it was all but over for Daredevils as they could only manage six runs off the last over from Agarkar out of the 24 runs needed.

Manoj Tiwary was named the man of the match for his crucial innings of 61 from 47 deliveries.

Result: Kolkata Knight Riders won by 17 runs

Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders: 148/7
Delhi Daredevils: 131/9

Man of the Match: Manoj Tiwary
