James Franklyn

Blistering innings of 51 from 30 deliveries from Aiden Blizzard and cameos of 29 from 25 deliveries and 11 from 5 deliveries from James Franklin and Harbhajan Singh helped Mumbai beat Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets in the last over after Munaf patel had helped them restrict Kolkata to 147 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Mumbai won the toss, elected to field and got off to a brilliant start removing four top-order batsmen with just 20 runs on the board. Munaf Patel got rid of Kallis in the second over brilliantly caught at Mid-off by Tendulkar for 7. Harbhajan Singh then cleaned up Gautam Gambhir as he completely missed one trying to slog sweep.

Munaf Patel then had Shreevats Goswami caught behind in the next over and Dhawal Kulkarni trapped Manoj Tiwary leg before wicket in the sixth over to reduce Kolkata to 20 for 4. Ryan ten Doeschate and Yusuf Pathan then added 24 runs from the next four overs before Doeschate cut loose hitting Polloard for four and six off consecutive balls which was followed by a powerful straight boundary from Pathan scoring 15 runs from the over. Patel then struck a crucial blow having Pathan caught at long on off a bouncer which was mistimed by the former.

The pair had added crucial 60 runs for the fifth wicket from seven overs. Shakib Al Hasan then joined ten Doeschate and started off aggressively hitting three back-to-back boundaries off Kulkarni. The pair added 41 runs from four overs before Shakib was cleaned up by Malinga via a slower delivery for 26 from 16 deliveries. Ten Doeschate then brought up his half-century from 39 deliveries taking the score to 130 for 6. Bhatia was then run out in the penultimate over but Doeschate and Brett Lee added 16 runs from 10 deliveries to take the total to 147 from 20 overs. Doeschate remained not out on 70 from 49 deliveries with six hits to the fence and three over it.

In reply, Mumbai got off to a great start hitting 14 runs off the first over with Blizzard hitting two boundaries. The next two overs yielded 10 runs and Blizzard then took on Abdulla in the fourth over hitting him for two boundaries one straight over the bowler's head and other across mid wicket. Tendulkar then took Pathan to the cleaners hitting him for four back-to-back boundaries, three on the fine leg and one over mid-off scoring 17 runs off the over.

Blizzard was also going berserk at the other end hitting Shakib for consecutive boundaries and then Bhatia for a six taking the score to 71/0 from seven overs. He then took Lee to the cleaners hitting him for Back-to-back four and six (superb thump over covers) bringing up his half-century off just 29 balls, but unfortunately he couldn't carry on and fell to a catch at deep cover off the very next delivery. Mumbai were in spot of bother when a moment of madness from Rohit Sharma saw him depart run out via a direct hit from Gautam Gambhir at mid-on and then Tendulkar mistimed a pull into the hands of Gully off Kallis in the next over as Mumbai were reduced to 92 for 3 from 11 overs.

Rayudu looked promising at the crease hitting two boundaries before he was wrongly adjudged caught behind off Kallis. Shakib brought Kolkata back into the match claiming the wickets of Pollard, trapping him leg before wicket and Suman, caught at long off reducing Mumbai to 133 for 6 in 18 overs. With 15 runs needed from 12 deliveries Harbhajan joined Franklin who was playing an intelligent innings, the Turbanator top-edged the first ball of the 19th over for a lucky boundary but Lee hit back conceding just four runs from the next five deliveries to bring the equation down to 7 from 6 balls.

Franklin took a single off the first ball to long on and with 6 runs required from 5 deliveries, Harbhajan finished off the match in style hitting a six over mid wicket, winning the match by four wickets, securing a champions League spot and knocking out the Knight Riders. Franklyn remained not out on 29 from 25 balls while Harbhajan remained not out on 11 from five deliveries with one four and one six.

Munaf Patel was named the man of the match for his majestic bowling spell of 3 for 27 from four overs.

Result: Mumbai Indians won by 4 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)

Scores: Kolkata Knight Riders: 147/7

Mumbai Indians: 148/6

Man of the Match: Munaf Patel
