From the iSport IPL Paddock: A breath-taking innings of 95 from 57 balls from Shikhar Dhawan helped Deccan Chargers beat Kings XI Punjab by 82 runs eliminating them from the competition at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.

DHAWAN

Kings XI Punjab won the toss, elected to bowl and could have made it the best start possible but for a dropped catch of Ravi Teja off the fourth ball of the innings by Paul Valthathy. The Deccan Chargers batsmen were scratchy to start off with as they added 20 runs from the next two overs. The next three overs yielded six boundaries as the visitors scored 58 runs in the power play overs. Teja was lucky again in the ninth over when he was dropped by Chawla off his own bowling and he made them pay hitting two boundaries off Ryan McLaren as the pair hit 17 runs off the 11th over taking the total to 102. Dhawan meanwhile got to his half-century from 35 deliveries. Teja had a third life line in the next over as he was dropped by Ryan Harris at mid on and Chawla capitalized on the life lines hitting two sixes and a four off Chawla in the next over as he brought up his half-century from 37 balls with the pair scoring 20 runs off the over. His luck ran out in the next over but not before he was again dropped off the first ball of the 13th over again by Harris at long on. Abhishek Nayar finally held on to one the very next ball at midwicket as a lucky partnership of 131 was broken by Valthaty. Dhawan and Duminy then added 27 from three overs before the latter was caught at mid-off off Harris for 12. Dhawan continued his blitz hitting the next two balls for boundaries and the first ball of the next over for six, adding 40 runs from four overs with Cameron White and setting up a humongous target of 198.

Chasing 198, Punjab got off to a bad start losing Valthaty in the second over, caught at mid-on off Steyn. Shaun Marsh showed some promise hitting consecutive boundaries off Duminy before edging one to short third man the very next ball. Gilchrist made most of the dropped chance as he added 61 from 7.4 overs with Dinesh Karthik and in process completed his half-century from 36 balls. Two wickets in the 11th over from Christian turned the match in Deccans favour as he first removed Gilchrist caught at extra-cover and then removed Karthik caught at deep point reducing the home team to 84 for 4. With 115 runs needed from 54 deliveries, Nayar departed in the 13th over trying to up the ante caught at deep midwicket. Amit Mishra then destroyed the lower middle order completing his hat-trick in the 16th over removing Ryan McLaren (caught at deep midwicket), Mandeep Singh (stumped) and Harris (caught in slips). He then cleaned up Praveen Kumar in his next over before Bhargav Bhatt was run out off the last delivery of the 18th over to end the innings on 116, losing the match by a humongous margin of 82 runs. Amit Mishra was the pick of the bowlers for Deccan with figures of 4 for 9.

Shikhar Dhawan was named the man of the match for his brilliant innings of 95 from 57 balls.

Result: Deccan Chargers won by 82 runs

Scores: Deccan Chargers: 198/2

              Kings XI Punjab: 116/10
