With so many views passionately expressed by iSport.in readers and cricket lovers, we asked fans their opinions on the IPL Season 3 Final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Contrasting views and clashing opinions!
Here is what they had to say:

Well I don’t think Mumbai could lose this way.. It’s all fixed I feel. Soooo many mistakes, important catches dropped twice, Nayar sent early and not Tiwary, then Dumuny sent instead of Pollard, Dhawan wasting 8 balls, Sachin wasting balls etc.. Very bad Captainship.. CSK deserve to win.
Shakun Singh
I think it’s a well deserved win for CSK. They played as a team... Everyone did their bit and so they won.
Sharandeep Sandhu
The best team in the tournament by miles had one bad day and they end up losing the tournament... Don't think it’s fair... the finals should be a best of 3 match!

Oh come on! Chennai dominated Mumbai in the finals and Mumbai without a doubt dominated every team in the league stages. The crowd at DY Patil reflected the Mumbai mood. There was no cheer from the crowd even for the winning. Totally unsporting behaviour! Its shameful that we allege something like this. Mumbai played well through the league and faltered in the finals. Why accuse them of fixing matches now and not earlier when they won games against all oppositions every so comfortably! Pure crap are stories about match fixing! Chennai was a better team on that day and Mumbai wasnt up to the mark. That is it!

Even though MI was a better team on paper they lacked the killer instinct. If MI had Sachin the best batsman, CSK had MS Dhoni the best captain and yesterday the tactically superior team won.

The match seemed such a put on! With the number of misfields, catch drops, the score wasn’t big..Pollard was sent in down at the lower order..run rate wasn’t maintained...easy catches given to CSK towards the end...they should have just awarded the trophy to CSK after the stupid performances by Bollywood goobers...

There were dropped catches and some tactical errors which cost MI big time....but that happens...... one team had to have a bad day... And unfortunately it was MI that had one yesterday... And of course it was just a game...need to understand the definition of match fixing. If its about providing information about teams and batting order... can still think its possible... But to throw away a game on the field..... Hard to digest and absolute non-cricketing.... I’m sure if MI would have pulled it off the fixing bit would have hounding Chennai. We have to deal with this garbage while enjoying the game...

Dhoni proved his mettle yet again in a pressure situation...!!! Great team work by Chennai Super Kings... :). Undoubtedly (thou my loyalties are to my team's Captain Kumble).. Have to admit that Dhoni's team won because of the Captaincy.. Dhoni has proved time and again (even while playing India) that he is one of the best Captains who can enjoy challenge and emerge victorious..!!! While Sachin is a great player.. he's not a great Captain. (Remember even he was Captaining India).. Also, Mumbai Indians hardly took any risks while bowling which again reflects on Captaincy.. Agree Mumbai were more under pressure performing in front of their home crowd. Nevertheless, Chennai deserved the victory... :)

More than captaincy...if the fielding would have been good...Game was ours. Do remember those 2 catches which went down.

It’s once again proved that Sachin is an ISO 9000 certified "BAD CAPTAIN". Sachin's conventional style of captaincy in not accepted in 20 overs cricket. Pollard came to bat only when the match slipped out of hand. Situation wise, pollard should have batted much ahead of Tiwary and Duminy.

Complacency and bad strategy. The bowling could have been changed frequently. Pollard could have come in earlier, likewise, they could have calmed down the nerves of some batsmen. It was so obvious that Nayar was anxious.

I don’t at all have a good feeling about MI’s loss. It’s not because I am an MI supporter and cannot accept defeat it’s just that there were some very obviously startling moments in the match which makes you wonder whatever happened to the team that has been topping the points table with some phenomenal strategy and batting. Sometimes we do make the mistake of raising someones morale because of an extraordinary performance and chopping the same players wings off if he is having a bad day. However, the in the finals.. something was a miss.. it just doesn’t feel right.

I think it was rigged. And Pollard should’ve definitely come up in the batting line up to save the game for MI.

It was a huge disappointment! The batting order was horrible and they seemed as if they were playing for a test match and not a T20 format! Too many dropped catches and butter fingers, fielding was pathetic as well!

Well it was an unfortunate loss for the MI and more so their fans. However, I urge the same fan to accept sport as one, where there will always be a winner and a loser. Let's take the losses in the right spirit and keep supporting our team undoubtedly. Cricket unfortunately has been accused of being fixed and the IPL in its current state is an easy prey. Lets keep supporting the team, players and of course the sport.

MI v/s CSK Finals: What was it? "Good Captaincy" or "Poor Strategy" or "A Script well enacted?? Don’t know...

It was an interesting match in which CSK held on to their nerves while MI just couldn't when it mattered the most. Every sport is full of uncertainty and maybe that is what makes them so interesting. I don't know if there was a conspiracy or not, but as far as the events in the match are concerned, it could happen in any sport where the more fancied team loses it way at the final hurdle. Indian fans need to grow up and stop crying conspiracy every time there is an unexpected result.

Looking at the forms of the two teams MI was favoured to win the title. But CSK won an important toss and were outstanding on the field. A very calm and confident M.S.Dhoni was a big plus for the winning side.

Since the time IPL started in 2008, Mumbaikars hoped that MI will reach the finals under leadership of GOD of cricket. Finally the wait was over after 3 years. With consistence performance by MI, I was quite sure that this year it’s going to be MI all over. For last of the league matches which was against KKR, all key players were rested which I thought was a good move. I never waited for a weekend to end. On Friday, the weekend started with an eager wait for Sunday evening.
When match started, I was happy because of CSK’s slow run rate but soon was angry after Suresh Raina was dropped twice and wrong LBW decision in CSK’s favour. Then came Bhajji 1 down. Even if we give benefit of doubt to team management, that Bhajji was send to hit some big shots and bring down the required run rate there is no reason to justify as to why Pollard was sent 6 down. Another most shocking thing for me was that after getting out Sachin went and sat inside the dressing room. Wondering why he did not want camera to capture his reaction (read “no regret of losing”) on his face. I never thought IPL would be fixed but after knowing what Lalit Modi has been involved in, I am forced to think otherwise. It’s also possible that promoters might have made lots of money losing in the finals.

Mumbai Indians were the favourites in the lead-up to the final, but a bad day at the office saw them lose to a superior Chennai Super Kings outfit. Suresh Raina was dropped twice, and he made MI suffer as he led CSK’s counter-attack in which his team scored 100 runs in their last eight overs. Death bowling and fielding had been MI’s strengths, but when it mattered the most, the home team lost the plot. During their run chase, the decision of the MI think-tank to send Pollard and Rayudu down the order caught many fans by surprise, and though KP played a late cameo, the damage had been done for Mumbai Indians. CSK deserved to win the match ... their batting, bowling and fielding was top-notch.Puneet Puri
The biggest mistake by Mumbai Indians was to send Pollard at no.8. he should have played at no.4 or 5. In final you can't experiment much n that too when Pollard was in form. I don't know who took the decision but seriously it has cost Mumbai Indians Badly. I hope God was not Involved in this decision. For Chennai I would say it was Suresh Raina who took the match away from Mumbai Indians and poor fielding of Mumbai Indians. The saying catches win matches fits here the best for Mumbai Indians.
