West Indies selectors sacked Chris Gayle from Captaincy and have selected Darren Sammy as the man to lead the West Indies Cricket Team which is going through the biggest crisis of its cricketing history.

The West Indies cricket had been led by 31 year old Gayle since 2007 however with a complete white wash handed over by Australia earlier this year and then by South Africa just after the T20 World Cup prompted the Board to take some tough decisions.
The all rounder from St Lucia, Darren Sammy mentioned on his twitter page , “Life now presents its biggest challenge and with God at my side, I'll face it with pride and dignity. Being appointed West Indies captain is an honour and distinction which I will treat with the highest regard and dignity. "
Darren Sammy has played 8 Tests, 43 ODIs and 19 T20 Internationals, before becoming the only player from St Lucia to handle the responsibility. "Chris Gayle, the former captain, led the West Indies during a challenging period and the board thanks him for stepping up then. But it is now time to pass the mantle on as the West Indies rebuilds,” said the WICB chief executive Mr Ernest Hillaire.
In a statement to media, the Selection Committee Chairman Mr Clyde Butts said, “We are at the dawn of a new era in West Indies cricket and we have entrusted the challenging job of captaincy to Darren Sammy because it is believed that he has demonstrated the attributes of a leader of this diverse group of men."
Darren Sammy is to lead the team, a 15 member squad on a tour to Sri Lanka in November. Brendon Nash has been appointed as Vice Captain of the team.
