Indian Cricket team Captain Dhoni, faces a ban for the next two matches. The reason given was a slow bowling rate, something that we all took notice of in the previous ODI. What happens to the Indian team post the ban? iSporter Suraj Kori shares his thoughts.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been banned for the next two matches of the India-Sri Lanka ODI series. A decision that has taken cricket lovers by surprise! The justification for this was because he was four overs behind the required bowling rate in the 2nd ODI. This is not the first time that an Indian Captain has been punished for underperformance. But, is it really a fair decision?

To begin with, I feel that the senior players in the team allocate a lot of time in ‘giving tips and advice’ which is not always required. What I noticed in the previous match was that players like Tendulkar, Sehwag and Harbhajan were chipping in their bit of advice to MSD. And that too after almost every single ball! Guys at times it would not be a bad idea to just let Dhoni do the judging and take his own decisions..After all he is the Captain!

Another episode that was astonishing was BCCI’s decision of not challenging the ICC for this ban! They are of the opinion that this ban is fair! Why would BCCI not challenge the ban? I truly believe that a board should and must always stand by it’s players and might I add the player in question here is our very own Captain! Unfortunately the Indian team will have to continue the series for the next two matches without their Captain.. their leader. To evaluate the series before it even began, the team suffered a great loss with the injury of Yuvraj Singh. Yuvi was and is the backbone of Indian middle order. And now the hosts have lost their Captain.

Excellent batting is what won India the first match at and a lot was expected from the batsmen ever since in terms of performance as the bowlers have somewhere failed to be at their best. Also, also the fielding graph has just been dipping down.. Without the Captain and Vice-Captain India is surely going to have a very hard time. A good team is always led by a good leader. And I personally feel Dhoni was doing a fine job.

Now the responsibility lies with the team as a whole and the youngsters who have the talent but have failed to deliver and be in the best form. It’s now all up to them to prove that India will survive this loss and will emerge a winner! The decision has been taken, it’s now the aftermath of that decision that’s important. Good luck to all!
