An aggressive innings of 80 off 62 balls from Suresh Raina coupled with a well paced innings of 86* off 99 deliveries from Virat Kohli helped India chase down 220 on a slow turning wicket at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, guiding India to a thumping six wicket victory over England.

England won the toss, elected to bat and got off to a good start as Craig Kieswetter took an aggressive approach in the fourth over, hitting Vinay Kumar for back-to-back boundaries and followed it up with two boundaries and a six off Ashwin in the sixth over.

The opening pair of Cook and Kieswetter added 39 for the first wicket before Ashwin trapped the former right in front in the same over in which he was mauled for two boundaries and a six by Kieswetter. Praveen Kumar followed suit as he trapped Kieswetter plumb in front with a slower one to reduce England to 39 for 2 in the next over.

Pietersen and Trott then resurrected the innings adding 73 runs from next 15 overs. Vinay Kumar finally broke the partnership in the 22nd over when he cleaned up Trott with a ball that kept a touch low. The spinners took over the reins from then on as Ashwin had Pietersen caught at deep midwicket in the 27th over and then two wickets in two overs from Jadeja reduced the visitors to 146 for 6 in the 32nd over. Ravi Bopara was trapped in front, while Jonny Bairstow was cleaned up playing down the wrong line.

Bresnan started off positively with two boundaries off Raina as he added 47 runs for the seventh wicket with Samit Patel. Patel perished in the 40th over, slog-sweeping one straight to the deep midwicket boundary fielder. It was the last decent partnership of the innings as Varun Aaron wrapped up the innings on 220 cleaning up last three batsmen each off his three overs. Bresnan made 45 off 45 deliveries with six hits to the fence.

In reply, India got off to a shoddy start as they lost three wickets with just 46 runs on the board.  Parthiv Patel and Gautam Gambhir were cleaned up by Finn, while Rahane was brilliantly caught behind off Meaker.

Raina and Kohli then took over the reins as they consolidated the innings with a clever approach, rotating the strike and hitting an odd boundary when required. Both batsmen brought up their half-centuries from 65 (Kohli) and 50 (Raina) deliveries respectively.

Raina went berserk from the 31st over as he clobbered Borthwick for two boundaries in the over and followed it up with two off Bopara in the next over. He then took on Finn in the 33rd over, hitting him for two boundaries more, but Finn had the last laugh as he cleaned him up via a straighter one in the same over.

With 39 required of 17 overs, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni made sure there were no more slip-ups as they finished off the match in the 41st over with an unbeaten partnership of 46 from 7.3 overs. Kohli remained not out on 86 from 99 balls, while Dhoni remained unbeaten on 15 from 18 deliveries.

Suresh Raina was named the man of the match for his 62-ball 80 blitz.

Scores:   England: 220/10, India: 223/4

Man of the Match: Suresh Raina.
