iSport Special: Our motorsport expert Kunal Shah attempts to write on Sachin Tendulkar. In his typical ways, he draws parallels between the Little Master and the other great athletes of the modern era.

Sachin Tendulkar! While many say that he’s one of the greatest batsmen of all times, I would take it a step further to say that he can be rated as one of the greatest athletes of modern times.

Yes, his records and statistics speak for themselves. His 175 in the last ODI reiterated to every cricket lover in the world that Tendulkar maybe completing 20 years of international cricket – but he’s not lost his class or form and is only far from being done!

Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher, Lance Armstrong, Roger Federer, Valentino Rossi and pardon me if I have not mentioned the other deserving athletes of the modern era here, but Sachin to me deserves to be mentioned in the list there. Might not be known outside the cricketing nations, and there might be only a dozen cricket playing nations - but that doesn’t undermine his achievements in anyway. If it did, then Lance’s tour titles are worthless too! After all, no Indians or Chinese participate in the Tour de France.

Its not just his person on the field, but also off it that has contributed to his long standing success. He’s been one of the only Indian cricketers who have been able to stay away from any controversies even after being in the public limelight for the last 2 decades. Yes, the pressure has been on him and it has shown sometimes too, but more often than not the Little Master has let his bat do the talking – because when his bat talks, its not just the cricket fan who stops by to see – but it’s every sporting fan in India. Go Sachin…
