Former Indian Captain Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad are all set to contest the Karnataka State Cricket Association elections for the 2011-2013 term which is going to be held on November 21.
The move has developed much interest into the elections for which long standing Secretary Brijesh Patel clarified that he will not be standing for the Secretary's post now but will support the former cricketers to contest the elections and be a part of the administration body.
Both Prasad and Srinath admitted that they are contesting the elections however were not ready to reveal more details until further developments.
Javagal Srinath, will contest the secretary's post, Venkatesh Prasad, will contest the vice-president's post while Kumble will contest the association president post.
Speaking on the decision Kumble said, "I retired two years ago and was keen to get involved in the association," he said. "I thought this was the best time for the cricketers of our generation to get involved.
"We'd like to put our vision in place and ensure Karnataka cricket really grows. We hope that Karnataka, as a team, goes on to be No. 1 in India, and that many more Karnataka players go on to represent the country.
"There's a lot to be done at the grassroots - from structuring schools cricket, club cricket and reaching out to all parts of Karnataka. That will be the challenge. We'd like to ensure that the paying public, who come and watch the game, have a wonderful time watching any form of cricket. We thought this was the right time to get into the KSCA."
This is not the first time that the former cricketers are contesting the elections. GR Viswanath, Syed Kirmani, Roger Binny, Sudhakar Rao, J. Abhiram all have been a part of KSCA and have contributed towards its growth. It will be interesting to see how the three cricketers make their way up the administration body.
