Carling Cup Update : Arsenal cruised through to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup as they beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, while Manchester United were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by West Ham United at Upton Park.

Arsenal booked their place in the Semi-Finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the Emirates. Arsenal started the first half brightly and missed several good chances but were rewarded with their efforts in the 42nd minute through an own goal from Latics skipper Antolin Alcaraz as he headed the ball into his own net from a Walcott cross.
Then in the 67th minute Nicklas Bendtner made it Game Set and Match for Arsenal as Robin Van Persie slipped the ball out to the left for Vela, whose perfect cross was slid in at the far post by Bendtner.
The Gunners were dominant throughout the match creating a lot of opportunities but lacked the finishing touch. The Gunners are now just one win away from reaching the final, and will have the chance to bring home first piece of silverware since their FA Cup win in 2005.
West Ham United dumped Manchester United out of the competition with a spectacular 4-0 victory at Upton Park. Sir Alex Ferguson made 10 changes to the side that beat Blackburn 7-1 with only Anderson remaining.
West Ham's Jonathan Spector opened the scoring in the 24th minute as he headed home a splendid cross from Obinna. It was Spector's first goal in English football in six years. Spector then doubled the lead in the 38th minute as united defender Fabio's attempted block of Obinna's shot fell into the path of Spector, who slotted home from close range.
Carlton Cole then made sure that West Ham had the win in their bag in the 55th minute as he headed home another superb Obinna cross to make it 3-0. Cole then rubbed salt on United's wounds as he scored the fourth goal in the 67th minute as he powered home from close range after being set up by the Man of the Match, Obinna.
