This weekend the MotoGP rolls into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, with excitement still at its peak as the Fiat Yamaha duo will once again fight for the championship lead, and for a change we have some speculations about possible riders for Ducati and Honda in 2010.
The biggest news comes yet again from the Italian team Fiat Yamaha, Jorge Lorenzo has signed a contract with his team for the ride position in 2010, a move largely backed by the fellow Yamaha M1 riders Valentino Rossi and Collin Edwards.
The Yamaha M1 has been the perfect bike and a complete package since Valentino Rossi moved from Repsol Honda to the team. The Italian has been involved very deeply in the M1 development and the results are spectacular the way we see it. Yamaha has always followed the philosophy of using as much technology as possible to make the bike best around the corners w.r.t balance and ability to carry speed into them but as a compromise they are willing to reduce the top speed in a straight line. Given in hands of the right rider, the bike can literally fly.
Lorenzo was contemplating moving to Repsol Honda or the Maralboro Ducati team, speculations which ended this week. Being the championship leader and rival team mate, Valentino Rossi never felt the pressure to such an extent that he wished Lorenzo wasn`t around on the same bike. Instead he says “We heard a lot of rumors before that Jorge is maybe moving to Honda or to Ducati. For sure if Jorge was to change bike it is big, is a lot a lot of changes in MotoGP, no? And is interesting. But Jorge remain.”
“I think he made the right choice because in this moment our bike is not the fastest on the straight, but is very good in the corners. We have good setting. We work a lot with the engineers, and the bike is well balanced. So I think at the end he made the right choice,”
The biggest reason of staying back was the kind of support Jorge enjoyed from his team though Ducati was willing to offer him almost four times as much he is earning at Yamaha. He says “One important point was the experience I have with this bike.” and adds “Two years of experience is a lot and now, at this moment, I can ride the bike quite easily. Another point is the confidence Yamaha have given me in the last two years, especially Lin Jarvis, who was key to my decision.”
Dani Pedrosa too has been linked to Ducati to sign the 2010 contract now that Jorge Lorenzo is going to stick to Yamaha, a move which I think will be a strong one for the Italian team and the Spaniard rider himself. Dani has to yet sign a deal with Repsol Honda too, a news which surfaced just after Jorge’s move. Only the basic agreement of staying at Honda has been decided and the Spaniard is open for other teams. He says “Just talking because at this moment I didn't sign [for 2010], so, of course, if they [Ducati] are interested to have another rider, maybe they have to talk to the riders, but that's all nothing,”
On hearing these things, I can only dream of seeing the Spaniard on the red monster Ducati GP10! Though I don’t quiet know how strong Dani is when it comes to fitness levels.
The Ducati riders will be signed by the mid of September, as Hayden has a option second year contract with Ducati and the decision is expected to be taken by the first week of next month.
There is little to say about who is going to win the Indianpolis GP this weekend as the track is a totally different one from European ones, riders will race in anti-clock direction and completely by passing the long banked curve.
Indianapolis also boasts of having the largest capacity in the world, 400,000 seats for MotoGP!
Can`t wait for the action to start.
