In our brand new series ‘Know Your Player’, we select Argentine hotshot Sergio Aguero. The player is one of the most in-demand youngsters in world football at the moment and iSporter Pulasta Dhar profiles him for you.

Sergio Aguero was nicknamed by his teammates as Kun, since he resembles one of the famous Japanese anime characters ‘Kun Kun’.

Like in many Argentinean families, Aguero was also passionate about the game of football and made a mercurial rise towards stardom. He was small in physical stature at the beginning but slowly made progress as soon as he joined professional training. About the same time as Lionel Messi’s rise, Kun was also a hotshot in the football scouting network which is so methodically laid out in South America by top European clubs.

Sergio was not lucky enough to be picked at a very early age like Messi was picked by Barcelona, but he made his name as soon as he joined Indipendiente, one of the very good clubs in Argentina. He came into prominence for his attacking instincts and soon made his debut at the age of 15 yrs and 35 days, becoming the youngest player ever to play in the top division of Argentina and beating Diego Maradona’s record in the process.

Sergio AgueroAguero scored an impressive 23 goals in 54 appearances for Indipendiente and was soon picked up by prying eyes for Atletico Madrid for a club record breaking 23 million Euros. Here, he had another top player as his striker partner in Fernando Torres. Even though Torres moved on, Atletico have managed to keep hold of this wonderkid and he has thanked them with a return of 50 goals in 128 appearances. Along with Diego Forlan, another former Indipendiente player, Aguero has menaced many clubs with his skills.

He dated Maradona’s daughter Giannina and they have a son named Benjamin, who turns out to be the world legends grandson. He is said to be media friendly and extremely professional when it comes to transfer rumours.

The player has been linked with several clubs across England and I foresee a future in the Premier League for Aguero. He has a reportedly massive release clause in his contract and clubs are reluctant to trigger that sort of money, with most considering him not too strong for the English League.

Internationally, the lad has been in impeccable form for his junior national teams. He won the 2008 Olympics and also captained his U-20 side to the FIFA Youth World Cup, also winning the tournament’s Golden Boot award for scoring 6 goals in all and setting up numerous others. He is now a regular fixture in Maradona’s squad and is expected to play a major role in this year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Keep a look-out for this boy!
