Claudio Ranieri - Inter Milan

Let me begin this article by reflecting on 'once upon a time' Inter Milan and their glory days which seem well and truly over. Surprisingly enough, Internazionale are the current FIFA Club World Cup holders and also the reigning Coppa Italia champions. With such a rich haul of trophies, one would expect the club to perform if not brilliantly, descently atleast. Alas, tonight was exactly opposite of what an ardent Inter fan would have expected when Inter lost 3-0 to Napoli.

Inter were lethargic, slumpy and absolutely listless suffering a 3-0 hammering at the hands of current champions Napoli. It was really boring to watch the 3 time Champions League winners who were once renowned for their quick touch on the ball displaying an attitude hard to grasp. The match seemed more of a slugfest with Inter Milan indulging in extreme verbal mud-slinging and arm twisting with respect to a physical battle than doing the talking with their feet.

Alarmingly, the Inter Milan midfield crumbled under pressure with only Nagatomo showing any signs of positivity while on the field during the entire duration of 90 minutes. Not only was their passing way off the mark but it was not hard to miss the fact that the team could not string together a series of passes. The right flank was absolutely un-utilized and any forward runs were c/o of the Japanese and Maicon pairing together on the left flank.

The match turned into a no-contest in the last 15 minutes when Inter Milan conceeded their third goal thanks to some sloppy defending.

Credit must be given to Napoli on the other hand for their precise tactics, exposing major chinks in the Inter Milan armour not once but thrice. The Napoli mid-field was a contrasting comparison to Inter Milan; cohesive and creative at the same time.

If tonight's match is a sign of an impending crisis waiting to strike F.C. Internazionale Milano in the near future, its time to address the flailing fortunes before its too late.
