A Call on Friday night may not prove to be anymore delightful in years to come. I was invited for a Karting race organized by the Indian Ocean Corporate games on Saturday morning at my home track Hira Nandani in Powai.Without any practice since months I went ahead with the qualifying. There were 3 qualifying sessions each consisted of 4 laps. The average of the best lap in each session is taken to form the Grid for the final race. Only 4 drivers would qualify for the final race since they wanted all the karts to be equal and only 4 karts were on pace.
During the qualifying I was trying to get back to my lines and breaking points. I managed to qualify in P2. P1 was Madhura Naik who has been practicing on that track. She drove brilliantly to qualify P1. The race was flagged off and Madhura got a brilliant start by procuring a lead of 2 corners. I got a bad start but that did not let my confidence down.
In Lap 2 I caught up with her and I was right on her tail. In Lap 3 after the fast chicane we were neck to neck on the up hill of the track until the next turn where I did not back off and went straight ahead for the turn. She backed off a little since I was on the racing line. The rest of the race towards the chequred flag was a very smooth affair since I had already procured a good lead over her.
Overall the race was fantastic and the management was thoroughly professional. Apart from being awarded a medal I have been sponsored to go to Dubai and race at the World Corporate Games in February 2010. Overall a great weekend!

... lol...the news guys need to check the racing video again....khyati mody cheated by pushing madhura into the tyres and was still not disqualified....!!!!!!! n khyati has tried her luck in national racing for about 4 years now ,madhura is very new to racing and still has brilliant lines!!! |

Madhura had tested for national level championship and due to her below average time she chickened out and did not even race or go for qualifying Khyati must be atleast 20 kgs heavier than madhura.If you put that 20 kgs on her kart then she would atleast be 5-8 secs slower.Khyati was only 2/10 slower. I have seen madhura race before her lines are horrible. Even though khayti is'over weight' she is a good racer. I have seen madhura race on the same track. Apart from having horrible lines the only way she would make it to the podium was by throwing tantrums and making a scene. |
