Winning a Gold Medal is every athlete’s dream and more so when that athlete is an Indian. It is not easy to go through the process of becoming an Olympic Medalist, but when you have Olympic Gold Quest by your side, there is nothing to worry. iSporter Pulasta Dhar talks about this wonderful initiative…

There are innumerable hurdles to cross on the path of becoming a Gold medalist. We have some excellent athletes from small towns and they cannot bear the brunt of the high expenses that sports stars need to shelve out if they want to be among the best. A sport star is not only ability, but the way he is trained day in day out and the way they maintain themselves. In this world of constant price rise, it is unfortunate that most of our players do not have the financial capacity to stay in the game for a long time without a sponsor.
Olympic Gold Quest helps the athletes they have on board with exactly that. The simple thought of 1 million people contributing Rupees 10 per month towards this cause is extremely viable and achievable. With the backing of corporate honchos, raising funds will not be a very tough predicament, but it might not last forever.
The athletes that OGC support consist of world class professionals in their field of expertise which most notably include Saina Nehwal, MC Mary Kom, Gagan Narang and Tintu Luka. On the panel of expert advisors are Prakash Padukone, Viren Rasquinha, Geet Sethi and the newly inducted Leander Paes. When such names come together, it makes sense of the expectations that are placed on their shoulders.
Let us not get this wrong, OGC are not a foundation made specifically to provide finance, but to provide a much needed support system for the players. It is extremely essential for players to stay at good rooms and have a proper allowance when they are away, and this is just one of the causes OGC fulfils.
Apart from these, we have to admit that the quality of coaching and infrastructure are not up to the mark in India and the OGC has linked up with some of the best coaches in the world and tied them up to our athletes who have shown some tremendous potential. Also, equipment from European countries which consist of gym equipment from Spain and guns for our impeccable shooters have been provided. A tie up with Nike for sportswear has enabled runners to have a range of shoes available for training as well as competitive tournaments.
The PT Usha school is also supported to a large extent by the OGC and such initiatives will enable us to have a lot of talent molded at a young age in India. Contributions can be made to the OGC on their website olympicgoldquest.in and we at iSport hope you support this cause.
