Date Krum

Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm, who was bidding to become the eldest WTA winner at the age of 40, failed in her attempt when she lost to Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn. Date Krumm would have been the record breaker beating the record set by Billie Jean King, who won WTA title at the age of 39 years 7 month and 23 days. Tamarine defeated Date in a hard fought marathon match by 7-5 6-7 6-1 which lasted over 3 hours.

This was fourth title for Thai Player after the victories in Holland in 2008 and 2009 and in Hyderabad in 2003.

Kimiko Date Krumm who defeated the top seeded Samantha Stosur and third seeded Shahar Peer while on her way to the finals said, "I just tried my best and fought as hard as I could. Nobody wants to lose, so I tried everything. Now I will play some ITF events followed by the Asian Games -- so I will be continuing to play tennis for the rest of the year."
