With the year's most prestigious grand slam - Wimbledon Championships - starting from Monday, iSporter Chirag Mansukhani previews the action.

It’s that time of the year again. Yes you guessed it right, it’s time for Wimbledon where the stars will shine for the next fortnight and the grass courts of SW 19 will be bestowed with some of the greatest ever players of the game along with some scintillating and breath taking matches.

The thing I like most about the Championships is the tradition. Players are expected to wear all whites as their playing attire while the sound of the band playing the traditional evergreen music is in the background as spectators sit back and enjoy their strawberries and perhaps some champagne.

What I like most of all is the feeling that Wimbledon gives me. Sitting all the way here at home I feel like I can smell the grass at SW 19. The place just seems to have a persona of its own which cannot be described; it can only be felt. While I’ve never visited Wimbledon it is my dream to go there and watch some of the best matches ever to be played and no doubt one day I shall.

This year Rafael Nadal will be back to reclaim the crown he won year before last while Federer who no matter what is still undoubtedly the king of the courts at SW19, will be standing in his way. Despite the fact that Nadal has reclaimed the no. 1 ranking, Federer goes into the tournament seeded no.1, which is an interesting call that has been taken by the tournament organisers.

Djokovic has certainly matured over the years and the crowd favourite Scotsman Andy Murray will be looking to perform well at Wimbledon. Andy Roddick and Robin Soderling will round up as my contenders for this year’s title. Undoubtedly the lead horse in all this would be R-Fed and I wish him all the luck and hope he wins and how. Another player I would definitely be rooting for these Championships is Andy Murray who seemed to have come of age in the last couple of years but has once again gone back into the shadows. As you must have guessed by now I’m not exactly a Nadal fan after all I’ve been rooting for Federer all these years but Nadal certainly has some quality and sheer class about him and I would not be surprised to see another Federer-Nadal final .Actually I am hoping for a Nadal-Federer final.

Well that’s that for the men’s game. As far as the women are concerned one can expect Serena Williams to be the firm favourite while sister Venus would not be far behind. The Williams’ sisters will once again be in the final pitted against one another is my prediction. Getting there however is going to be easier said than done. With the likes of Justin Henin, Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova,Jalena Jankovic and the young Wozniacki, the Williams sisters certainly have their work cut out for them.

Wimbledon certainly has a lot about it and one can be sure to sight some of the legends watching the matches at SW 19. A fortnight of sheer class and brilliance awaits us. For now though, it’s over to the courts at SW19.

Number 1 seed he may be, but Federer only just survived the first round after being two sets down against Alejandro Falla!
