Cricket Update from the iSport Cricket Paddock: Paceman James Anderson (4-51) produced a brilliant spell of bowling to help England bowl Australia out for 245 on day one of the second test at Adelaide Oval.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first, but their decision backfired as they lost opener Simon Katich run out without even facing a ball courtesy a brilliant direct-hit from Jonathan Trott positioned at Mid-wicket.

The very next ball Ponting was out for a golden duck as he was caught by Graeme Swann at second slip off James Anderson.

Vice-captain, Michael Clarke (2) lasted just seven minutes at the crease as he too was caught by Graeme Swann at second slip off James Anderson to leave Australia reeling at 3 for 2 in three overs.

Shane Watson (51) and Michael Hussey (93) then resurrected the Australian innings with a crucial partnership of 94 for the fourth wicket as Watson reached his half-century.

Anderson finally removed Watson just after lunch as he had him caught at Gully by Kevin Pietersen for 51.

Hussey and Marcus North then added 60 for the fifth wicket as Hussey brought up his half-century but soon North (26) was caught behind off Steve Finn.

Hussey and Brad Haddin then added 51 for the sixth wicket before Hussey was caught at first slip by Paul Collingwood off Graeme Swann for 93.

Swann then had Ryan Harris leg before wicket the very next ball to leave Australia reeling at 207 for 7.

Xavier Doherty was then run out for six and soon Anderson claimed his fourth scalp as he had Siddle caught by Cook.

Haddin continued his lone battle before he was caught by Finn out on the boundary off Stuart Broad for a well-made 56.

In reply, England openers Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook played out one and only over from Ryan Harris and made sure they remained not out at stumps at the close of play.

At stumps on Day 1: Australia: 245/10
