From the iSport Cricket Paddock: Captain of the Deccan Chargers and one of Cricket's best wicketkeepers Adam Gilchrist applauds India for their current No.1 stand in Test Cricket.

Arguably the best wicketkeeper batsman of all time Adam Gilchrist thinks that India is deservingly the No. 1 Test team right now as they seem to be “way ahead” than anyone else when it comes to application of skills in the traditional version of the game. However he also cautioned that India should not to be complacent against the Australians who can beat any team on a given day.
“India has worked very hard to reach this status and have been up there in the rankings since long. They deserve to be No. 1 and enjoy the success,” said the legendary Aussie stumper. With the second test between Australia and India that started today in Bangalore, Gilchrist warned India that even after the retirement of big names like McGrath, Warne and himself, Ricky Ponting has transformed the team and still is one of the best in the world and after losing the first Test in Mohali last week, they will be raring to perform to their best in the series.
He was also full of praise for his Deccan Chargers team mate VVS Laxman, who played a match winning knock of 73* in Mohali despite sore back. He said, “There isn’t any player better than him in the sport when it comes to cricketing skills and applying those skills. He has always been a thorn in Australian flesh but an amazing cricketer at the end of the day. Even if he is not doing advertisements, doesn’t have any sponsorship, still, he is been there for India in the crisis situation and this is what makes him ‘very very seriously good’ player.”
Gilchrist also expressed his desire to keep captaining the Deccan Chargers team in IPL for the next season as well. Deccan Chargers won the second edition of IPL and reached the semifinals in the third edition under Gilchrist’s captaincy.
