Cricket Update: Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid struck centuries to put India on top on the opening day of the first Test against New Zealand. India ended the day on 329-3 with Tendulkar and Laxman at the crease.

India won the toss and elected to bat first and started the innings in attacking fashion as Sehwag put on 60 runs with Gautam Gambhir (21) for the first wicket in just 12 overs. But Gambhir’s poor form with the bat continued as he was clean-bowled by Jesse Ryder. He has now scored only 154 runs in his last ten innings in Test cricket.
Sehwag continued to attack the bowlers and put on 237 runs for the second wicket with Dravid before he was finally dismissed by Daniel Vettori for 173, he was dropped twice earlier in his innings. His 173 off 199 balls included 24 fours and a six.
And with the score on 317, Dravid inside-edged a delivery from Chris Martin back on to his stumps. He made a patient 104 off 222 balls.
Sachin Tendulkar (13*) and VVS Laxman (7*) made sure that India did not lose any more wickets as they ended day one on 329 for 3.
All eyes will be on Sachin Tendulkar on day 2 of the Test match as he is on the brink of his 50th Test ton.
