It’s already three weeks into the New Year and things aren’t looking too bright for Real Madrid’s Neo Galacticos as they look to catch Barcelona’s all star team at the top.  This weekend Madrid host Malaga at the Bernabeu and iSporter Karan Shah provides a preview...

Five points separate the Catalans from their nearest rivals Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish League. Both teams being booted out of the Copa Del Rey now have the opportunity to go all guns blazing in the remaining two important competitions. Barcelona do seem to have lost their earlier invincibility powers but they are yet quite ahead of the pack in terms of quality. Last week’s dismal result against Athletic Club proves that Madrid still have a lot of work to do if they intend to gain anything from the massive amounts they spent last year.

Malaga seems to be quite an easy opponent but that’s exactly where the problem arises for Los Blancos. They tend to take it too easy and end up with their home fans booing their own players-  a feat which only the Bernabeu ‘Faithful’ can perform. Also Madrid’s finishing is below par – 31 shots against Athletic and eventually they lost 0 -1. And add to it the injury problems to Higuain, Nistelrooy, Drenthe, Gago and Van der Vaart. This certainly doesn’t seem like a ride in the park. Day in Day out they have to win and win convincingly and this game is going to be no different. Also there are rumours that Nistelrooy is leaving Real Madrid this transfer window for Hamburg for lack of playing time plus there is interest from host of Premier League clubs too.

Malaga have a knack of surprising the bigger teams and they would surely want to prove a point to Madrid at their home ground. For Madrid, their attack is quite strong in spite of the injuries with Ronaldo, Kaka, Guti and Benzema all fit to play. It will be an interesting duel as Barcelona play a day earlier and their result is surely going to affect Madrid’s night out at the Bernabeu.

Score Predictions: Madrid 3 – 1 Malaga.
