La liga logo team of the season

Firstly I would like to welcome my regular readers back to normality. I have been in Spain for the last couple of months but have now returned home. The La Liga season is half way through and there have been some great displays from individuals and teams alike. I have compiled my team of the season so far. Do you agree? If not who should be in and who should be out. Get in touch via twitter @olih21.

4-4-2 Formation

La Liga Team of the Season

GK: Victor Valdes: Having conceded the fewest goals in La Liga this season Valdes is the natural choice as GK of the season so far. Valdes is regularly called upon in one on one situations as Barca play a very high line and are prone to counter attacks.

LB: Puyol: Slotting in at LB for the sake of this team of the season so far. Despite having his injury problems this year whenever he plays the Barca defence is so solid compared to when he is not. His performance against Real Madrid in El Clasico was nothing short of amazing.

CB: Rami: Valencia have been solid this season and most of this has been down to the solid platform they have built at the back, Rami is key to this. He has also netted 2 goals in 3 games, furthermore he only gives away one freekick per game which is nearly the best in La Liga.

CB: Ballesteros: At 36 Ballesteros is setting an example to youngsters around the globe. The turn of pace he had to keep up with Cristiano Ronaldo in Levante’s 1-0 win over Real was incredible, he might be overweight in the eyes of some but his reading of the game and athleticism is something to behold.

RB: Dani Alves: He can sometimes be questionable defensively but going forward no one can question his ability. Also has to be one of the fittest players in the game as he is constantly bursting down the right wing all game. Has chalked up 6 assists already this season, the same as Cristiano Ronaldo.

RM: Cesc: At RM in this team but has played in around 4 positions already this season, he is Barca’s second highest scorer with 8 and has 5 assists aswell. He has added a new dimension to an already fantastic Barcelona team, who would have thought he would of hit the ground running so quickly.

LM: Di Maria: He might go down easily but no one can doubt his out and out wing play, very much plays like an old school winger, on form can cause havoc for the best defence. Currently leading the assist chart with 13, a full 6 ahead of Messi in 2nd.

CM: Xavi: In my opinion the best centre midfielder of all time, no one has ever controlled a game such as he does week in week out, something that is nearly impossible to do in the modern game. 5 assists and 5 goals so far in the league this season, he has completed more passes individually than any of the bottom 5 teams!

CM: Raul Garcia: His 5 assists and well rounded displays have helped Osasuna a team is usually around the relegation end of the table secure the 5th spot half way through the season. Athletico Madrid will be wondering why they let him go.

ST: Messi: What more can really be said about Messi, every week he blows people away. Has not been on his best form over November and December but is still clearly the most talented footballer on the planet at the moment, if not ever. Has 7 assists and 17 goals to his name in the league this season.

ST: Ronaldo: Continued his goal scoring form and has 20 to date in the league, a great achievement although it has to be noted that 7 of these are penalties. His game has become more team orientated also and has 6 assists so far, is there a player in the world that is as strong and fast as Ronaldo? Probably not.
