As a Madridista nothing less than a victory against sides like Levante and Racing are just unacceptable but have no option but to absorb a last weekend loss and now the midweek draw. Overall in the four games of the Liga BBVA season we have lost 5 points in total, which many have already takes as another season without the La Liga Title. So let’s see what I saw at El Sardinero:
Racing Raced Ahead:
When you play against clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona you have no choice but to give your 150% into the match. That is exactly what Santander did last night they were strong in their defense and were grasping on to every single opportunity they had to attack. Getting one points against one of the top dogs of the league is really a big achievement for a club like Racing and they took full advantage of Madrid’s misery.
Something Is Terribly Wrong:
It’s either the mindset or the tactics but there seems to be a big hole in the way Real Madrid are going about their past two games. Imagine a team of Los Merengues calibre having 74% of the possession throughout the match but able to have only 10 shots taken on the goal out of which only two were on target. Yeah the facts are exactly what you just read and yeah Ronaldo, Benzema, Ozil, Invisible Callejon were playing. Madrid started the game at such slow pace specially Ozil who looked out of his groove which is not the style of play Madrid is known for specially when you playing 4-2-1-3 formation. And so I can officially say for two consecutive matches our attacking ship has been sailing without the Radar.
Ronaldo Is Not Bigger Than The Club:
One thing I really fail to understand is it so difficult to substitute a world class player even if he is having a bad day on the field. Last night Ronaldo was so out of touch, wrong passes, unnecessarily shooting around and lack of patience but still he was given the full 90 minutes, was his playing time more important than a chance of victory in hand. That’s not the case only in Madrid that’s the same for Rooney in Manchester, Messi in Barcelona, Di Natale in Udinese or Ibra in AC Milan.
Callejon and Lass:
I didn’t know Callejon was even playing till I saw him slipping and failing to reach Benzema’s cross on the far post. Playing in place of Di Maria he was given a chance to make Mourinho believe in him which he could have done by displaying one of his electrifying and lively performances which he displayed at Espanyol last season. As for Lass he was playing exactly in the same way as Cesc was playing for Arsenal when he actually wanted to leave the club.
Diarra are one of those few guys who don’t let their height hinder their physical presence in the midfield but last night most of the time he was flat on the green screaming for a foul to be given. As Xabi one of the most talented midfielders in the world was as usually working very hard but had one of those bad days which comes like Cristiano scoring a FK out of 20 attempts, Granero was really missed. SO officially Callejon was Mr. Invisible and Lass looked like a wining mouse for the time they spent on the field.
The Other Things:
- In the absence of Ramos and Pepe, Varane and Arbeloa displayed such great partnership in the defense. They almost had a telepathic connection last night covering for each other’s movement.
- Kaka for the 19 minute he played last night he was nothing less than a class act. He did what he does best and unfortunately something Ozil couldn’t do in the 75 minutes: he was making the right plays, playing with his own speed to play with the opponents and as Mourinho said he played as a free agent moving from here and there.
- Amazing Gesture: Perez after yesterday’s game went to the locker room and hugged Mourinho and showed his support to the team.
- I would like to quote a line from an article posted on http://www.madridismo.org/racing-santander-vs-real-madrid-winners-and-losers/ : “The special one will have to reach deep into his hat if he is going to pull out any valid excuses for this performance.” This is exactly what all the Madridista are expecting out of Mourinho in the coming days. And next time would really want him to quote a solution for our problems rather than quoting where we went wrong.
- Someone please let CR7 know we hit freekicks to score a goal and not appeal for handballs.
- And I hate it when we wear this Black jersey and White shorts combination it feels as if someone from the backroom staff either forgot to get the Black shorts or the White Jerseys from the laundry

... Great article. Agree on points about Ronaldo & Callejon. However I dissagree about Kaka & Ozil comparison. Ozil created 3 scoring chances during his time on the pitch, 2 of them was for Ronaldo which he messed up due to his bad touch. On any other day Ronaldo probably will put that chances. As you also notice Lass wasn't doing his job, causing Ozil to drop deep so often to pick up the ball. Ozil's not playing great, but he did his job well anough considering lack of support from his teammates. Not only attacking, Ozil even made a briliant run to stop Racing's counter attack when Marcelo MIA. Kaka played well, but created nothing. He just did what he do best, run with the ball. But that's all it. Not even when Racing stopped playing in the last 30 minutes helped Kaka to create something out of it. |
