The latest news from the White House indicated that Sneijder has been sold to Inter Milan; and Robben to Bayern Munich. Lets see how business beats football in the entity that is, REAL MADRID.

Call him a shrewd businessman or a savior to last year’s terrible performance, Florentino Perez kick started his second era of Galacticos with greater vengeance than the previous one. With money bags being thrown like waste, in this time of global recession, Madrid have signed them all. Defense, Midfield or Attack, All of them are filled with superstars. However, it seems that off late their business plans have more or less angered Madridistas. The signings have been brilliant no doubt. But selling one of the best wingers in the world, and one of the most creative midfielders has made Madrid’s bench a little vulnerable.

robbenNo doubt Robben has had a huge problem with injuries, but as he has shown, on his day, he can give even Ronaldo a run for his money. Last season he was the only performer on the pitch. It was obvious, his talent is brilliant. Then comes this preseason, Robben outshines the new signings, day in day out, prompting Manuel Pellegrini to say that Robben is definitely not for sale. Fast forward a week now. Madrid’s official website declares Robben has been sold, that too for a fee of 25 million. That is absolutely ridiculous!

This is the power that Perez commands at the Bernabeu. The coach has no say. The people who know better about football than him have no say. All he has to see is how to recoup the huge investment he made earlier, and if selling one of your best players is going to help. Then so be it!

Now, let’s turn to Sneijder. Another of Madrid’s better players. ”BETTER” I shall tell you he is when you compare him to Gago, Guti, Drenthe et al. He has obviously been a better footballer in all aspects. After reviewing his performance in training and preseason, Manuel Pellegrini told the press that he is a part of this season’s plans. Everyone except Van Der Vaart is.  Fast forward to now. Sneijder is sold for a fee of 15 million to Inter Milan. And Van der Vaart is yet at Madrid.

It is somehow difficult to understand that if a team wants to actually beat Barcelona’s last season’s treble triumph, they are letting go of such quality players! No doubt there have to be a maximum of 25 players and some had to leave. But those “some” who were supposed to leave were the likes of Drenthe, Torres, De La Red and Gago. Whatever happened to them!

sneijderThere are barely any days left for the transfer season to end, It will be interesting to see if Madrid buy Ribery (remember Robinho’s and the real Ronaldo’s last minute singing). Madrid have been masters at last minute convincing! However this sort of treatment to existing players has certainly not won Perez many accolades. He has been a wonderful businessman. But selling for 40 million is not going to help something bought for 250 million. But Perez being the Boss that he is surely has some plans for the team. The only thing that is concerning is whether those plans actually involve football!
