FIFA World Cup 2010 Diary : Germany's Hard To Take Loss against Serbia!

Germany faced an unlikely defeat at the hands of a relatively weaker side, Serbia! in their FIFA World Cup match. The Germans had not lost a group stage match since 1986 and were expected to win it quite easily after the 4-0 thrashing of Australia in their previous match. iSporter and Germany fan Suraj Kori analyses what went wrong.

But the Germans couldn't match the expectation. This win would have undeniably cemented their place in the next round but now we will have to wait until 24th June to see if Germany goes through or not.

Things didn't start well for the Germans with a couple of Yellow cards in the starting minutes of the game. Well, the referee seemed a bit harsh on both sides regarding his decisions showing Yellow cards!

The Serbians started with an attacking plan where as Germany on the other hand adopted a defensive approach. I personally feel that they should have been more attacking in the beginning and this would have pushed the Serbian on the back foot.

German striker Miroslav Klose was sent off on 37th minute after he received second yellow of the night. This was a big blow for the Germans as Klose has been in tremendous form at the World Cups. Had he stayed there, he would have surely made a difference. Even worse is that he will be missing the next match against Ghana.

The things got from bad to worse when Serbia scored the opening and the only goal of the match in the 38th minute. Milan Jovanovic scored the goal from a very short distance of the goal and scoring from such a distance shouldn't have been of concern for him.

The Germans should have gone level in the stoppage time of first half had the ball not hit the post! This was the best chance the Germans created in the first half.

The best chance of the match came in when Germans were awarded a penalty. Lucas Podolski stepped up but missed the penalty! Podolski should have certainly scored from there and brought the Germans back in the match. But this miss got the morale of the Germans even low...

Since then the Germans made several chances only to be saved by the Serbian goalkeeper or the shots going wide. Serbia played well to stop the Germans from getting the equalizer!

This is the period when Germany missed its captain, Michael Ballack the most! He is a great finisher and a good defender too. And the most important he would have definitely scored the penalty. He is a player every coach would want in his team.

Joachim Low was completely frustrated with referee's decisions and his frustration reached its height when Bastian Schweinsteiger was Yellow carded in the dying minutes of the match. He bashed the bottle of water on the ground after this incident showing his dispair...

This win brings Serbia at level with Ghana and Germany who won their initial matches of the group stage. All these three teams are now at level with 3 points each.

This makes the group completely open and tough for Germany. If Ghana wins its match against Australia then it would certainly have an edge over the others to book its place in the next round.

I just wish that Germany wins its next match and makes it to the Round of 16!
